The Friday 56 with Book Beginnings #2

The Rules:

* Grab a book, any book
* Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that's OK)
* Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it)
* Post it
* Add your (url) for the post, not your blog, in the Linky
* It's that simple
The Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Freda's Voice where every Friday you pick the book you're reading, a book off your shelves, or just a random book at the store, in other words any book that you want, and turn to page 56 and find a sentence or two that stands out to you. Put the sentence or sentences in a post and include the author and title, post it and then add your url into the Linky on Freda's Voice and there you go.

Shiver by: Maggie Stiefvater

This little bit was taken from 56.4% on my tablet.

I fell for her in summer, my lovely summer girl
From summer she is made, my lovely summer girl
I'd love to spend a winter with my lovely summer girl
But I'm never warm enough for my lovely summer girl

It's summer when she smiles, I'm laughing like a child
It's the summer of our lives; we'll contain it for a while
She holds the heat, the breeze of summer in the circle of her hand
I'd be happy with this summer if it's all we ever had.

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme hosted by
 Rose City Reader where you take the first few sentences from the first page of the book you are reading along with your initial thoughts on the sentence or sentences, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Remember to include the title of the book and the author's name. And don't forget to link up.

I remember lying in the snow, a small red spot of warm going cold, surrounded by wolves. They were licking me, biting me, worrying at my body, pressing in. Their huddled bodies blocked what little heat the sun offered. Ice glistened on their ruffs and their breaths made opaque shapes that hung in the air around us.  The musky smell of their coats made me think of wet dog and burning leaves, pleasant and terrifying. Their tongues melted my skin; their careless teeth ripped at my sleeves and snagged through my hair, pushed against my collarbone, the pulse at my neck.

My thoughts:

I just finished this book and was very impressed with it. Maggie is very descriptive and paints a very vivid scene. She uses a dual POV and both characters are very strong and independent. The paragraph above was written with such clarity that I was easily able to picture the wolf attack and became transported instantly.

    1. Thank you for the comment Kathy! I just started Linger this morning and have made it to chapter 8. What I've read so far is really good too and it starts almost where Shiver ended.

    1. Shiver is the first book of Maggie Stiefvater's that I've read, and if I like the rest of her books as good as I liked this one, then she's easily made my favorite authors list. I hope you get to read some of her work soon.
