REVIEW: Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Opposition

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Published: August 5, 2014

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Synopsis:

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her- could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team up with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may loose everything-even what they cherish most-to ensure the survival of their friends...and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

Review:

Okay, Oh My Gosh, My mind is still doing flips. I thought this was such a great book. I'm sad to see the series end though. This was a series that I think could go on and on.

Opposition starts off right where Origin leaves off. Daemon, Dawson, and Dee have left with the Luxen that have invaded Earth. Katy can't let herself believe that they won't come back, even though Luc and Archer believe that they are lost to them forever. Beth starts getting really bad morning sickness so Archer and Katy go out to get her some prenatal vitamins and other medications. That's when everything hits the fan. The action starts at that moment and doesn't slow until the end of the book. Katy and Daemon sure have gotten themselves in a pickle this time.

Katy is absolutely fierce in the final installment of the Lux series. She has grown, not only in character but also in power, so much over the previous books and it shows. Even though she is strong, brave, fierce and loyal she suffers a lot of emotional damage throughout this book and I felt for her.

Daemon in this book is still well, Daemon. I've said this more than once and I'm going to say this again: Daemon Black is even more irresistible in this book. He still has his overly protective side but he is also even more open about his feelings for Katy. He makes it widely know that he loves his Kitten and will burn the world down to protect her.

Dee changes for a while in this installment, more so than she did in Onyx and Opal. I really can't say too awful much without spoiling the story, but I will say that it'll have you thinking: ''What the crap man" and "Oh my gosh, NO!".

Dawson and Beth we really don't get to see a whole lot of them, but I kinda felt sympathy for them. Dawson just got Beth back and then he kind of looses her again for a little while. He has to act like she has never existed but you can tell being away from her is killing him. And Beth, the poor thing, is having a hard time during her pregnancy. She is constantly sick and tired all the time. And it is even harder for her being away from Dawson.

We all knew that Luc was kind of like a teenage mafia leader but some of the things he is able to pull off are out of this world. In Opposition we get to learn a little bit about his background. Some of the things you learn will surprise you.

Archer grows into an even more wonderful character. He shows emotion in this book and he's actually pretty funny. I love the fact that everyone gets upset when he gets all up in their heads. I mean I would too but some of the banter that passes between him and the others is hilarious.

The final book in the Lux series will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. It's packed full of action, romance, comedy, suspense, desperation, twists, turns, highs and lows. If you haven't read any of the books in the series before Opposition I suggest reading those first.

If you have read the entire series and are looking for a little more Daemon and Katy then you can go to Jennifer L. Armentrout's webpage here and her Wattpad page here and get a few bonus scenes and Daemon's POV for a few of the scenes.

Here's a look back at a few of my favorite Daemon and Katy moments.

Review:

Jennifer Armentrout out did herself with Origin. If you thought the other books in this series were amazing just wait until you read this one, she'll blow your mind! There is so much action packed into the book, you would not believe some of the action scences, absolutely outstanding! She has also brought back the jerky Daemon that we all fell in live with, but he still keeps his sweet and loving side when it comes to Katy. JLA gives us all the makings of a brilliant and riveting book, you get angst, action, desperation, suspense, and drama.

Origin starts off right where Opal left off, Katy has been captured by Daedalus in a rescue mission to get Beth back. Blake once again was a huge douche canoe and betrayed them all. With Origin we get both Daemon and Katy's POV, which makes the story that much more entertaining. You get to meet new some characters and then you loose some old characters.

Katy has always been strong and brave but in Origin she grows to be a survivor and fighter because of the grueling things she has to endure. With the things that Katy had to go through and the things that she witnessed, its no wonder Beth was so mentally damaged. Katy still manages to hold on to her feisty side and is fighting to not become broken. In her own way she is able to fight against the system for a while and refuses to cooperate.

"I refuse to fight them-to beat up on them or potentially kill them if things got out of hand. It was like being in a real, albeit messed up, version of 'The Hunger Games'. 'The Hunger Games' for alien hybrids."

"What about school? You want an uneducated hybrid running amuck? What about my mom? My friends? What about my life? My blog?...You've stolen my life and think that I should just stand here and take it? That I shouldn't demand answers? You know what? You can kiss my a$$"

If you thought Daemon was irresistible before then you ain't seen nothing yet! Wow, Daemon shined so bright in this installment of the Lux series. He vowes to burn down the world to get his Kitten back and I feel he would have too. There is absolutely no doubt what so ever of his feelings for Katy. He tries so hard to be a ''rock'' for Katy in some of her hardest moments. He still, with everything that is going on, manages to bring out his cocky and snarky side.

"As close as you're riding me, man, I feel like I need to take you out to dinner or something. At least, I should get your name."
"People call me Archer."

"Another fanboy, I have them everywhere."

"Well aren't you just a special snowflake"

Archer is one of the new characters, and from the beginning you can tell he's not one of those ''heartless'' people that are working with Daedalus. He is there for Katy, as much as he can be, when she needs someone and is virtually all alone. There is absolutely nothing romantic about their relationship, so no need to worry. He is just someone who is there for her.

Blake of course ends up in the facility with Katy. I wanted to get my hands wrapped around that tanned neck of his and shake him senseless, that no good for nothing douche canoe! I really wished Daemon would have gotten rid of that problem a long time ago. I do think he got what was coming for him though.

There is so much that happens in Origin. You'll want to finish this in one read, it's that good. Jennifer Armentrout has added another epic story to her Lux series. I totally think you should read this series if you haven't already because with each installment it only escalates to greater heights in greatness.

REVIEW: Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout Book three in the Lux series

Title: Opal

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Published: December 03, 2012

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Synopsis:

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn't fooling around. Doubting him isn't something I'll do again, and now that we've made it through the rough patches, well... There's a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can't protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I'm no longer the same Katy. I'm different... And I'm not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I'm capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from an unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won't turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we're stronger...and they know it.

Review:

Oh My Gosh! Jennifer L. Armentrout is a complete genius. If you thought the first two books in this series were amazing, just wait until you read Opal. This book makes the whole series that much more awesome. The ending though will have you gasping and dying to know what happens next.

Opal starts off where Onyx left off, Dawson is back and it has turned every ones lives upside down. He is determined to get Beth back and nothing will stop him. Daemon and Katy have finally made their relationship official but they are unable to spend any time together as a couple, because Daemon is always having to babysit Dawson so he won't run off to try to rescue Beth and get himself captured again. Dawson is not the same as what he was before he was captured and tortured, and Daemon has no idea how to help him.

Dee, at the beginning of the story still won't talk with Katy and it seems that their friendship has taken a turn for the worse and may never be salvageable. Dee's character changes so much in this book and it could be for the worse. Since she has lost Adam she refuses to talk with Katy, Lesa, or Carissa and starts to hang out with Andrew and Ash. With everything that happened in the Onyx I knew there would be some damage to Katy and Dee's friendship but will it ever be able to be fixed?

Daemon changes a lot in this book also. His character grows and he becomes even more irresistible, if that is even possible. He is starting to become a better person, *err* Luxen, because of Katy. She brings out the best in him. He is still just as fierce as before when he needs to be, but is more open with Katy with his emotions. He opens up with her where as before he would have said something cocky and smart. Daemon still has an ego the size of Alaska, but some of the things that come out of his mouth are absolutely priceless.

"You just like me for my body. Admit it."
"Well Yeah..."
"I feel like man-candy"

" If you start climbing on car hoods, I think I might marry you."

Katy is dealing with a lot of guilt over all the things and mistakes that happened in Onyx. She's learning not to be too trusting with anyone. The moments that she is alone with Daemon are absolutely beautiful. They are starting to connect more and its not just physically intimate but also emotionally intimate. Some of the things that come out of her mouth are just wow.

"If fishes were wishes, we'd all throw nets."

"Oh for the love of backwoods babies everywhere"

"He kisses like he's dying of thirst, and I'm water."

There are twist and turns, ups and downs, betrayal, deaths and the hugest cliffhanger ever. Jennifer Armentrout will take you on a wild ride. You'll be sitting on the edge of your seat with the ending! I mean WOW, what a way to end the book. I was all like:

And then some of this:

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the genres: fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal romance. I do suggest that before you read this book you have a copy of the next book in the series (Origin) on hand because you will want to jump right into it. I don't think you will be disappointed, there's a reason Jennifer L. Armentrout is a NY Times #1 Best Selling Author; everything she writes is pure gold!

REVIEW: Onyx by: Jennifer L. Armentrout book two in the Lux series

Title: Onyx

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Published: August 2012

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Synopsis:

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks...

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizzaro connection. So I've sworn him off, even though he is running more hot than cold these days. But we've got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum have come to town...

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I'm a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes...

I've seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he's never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them--from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies...

Review:

Jennifer Armentrout has done it again! She has absolutely blown my mind! If you thought Obsidian was great just wait until you read Onyx. The character development deepens, there are even more great moments between Katy and Daemon, love, heartache, and betrayal. Once again Armentrout will take you on an emotional roller coaster, you'll laugh, cry, be happy, mad and sad, but you'll want to get on that roller coaster again and again.

Wow, my mind is still reeling after waiting a day to start this post. I feel like I can't form a coherent sentence. I have a tendency to like almost every book that I read, but then there are a few that I completely flip out over and become the ultimate fangirl. This is one of those books and I can't even begin to tell you how much awesomesauce is packed into this book. Well I probably could but I would be gushing for hours on how every page is dripping with complete genius.

Onyx starts right where Obsidian left off. Katy is still trying to stay away from Daemon and is in complete denial about her feelings. The hilarious and witty banter between them only gets better. Katy becomes an even stronger person than she was in Obsidian. She made some BIG mistakes but that only makes her seem more real. We get to see a lot more of Daemon and, believe it or not he becomes even more irresistible than what he was. I didn't think that was possible but believe me he becomes even more swoon worthy. He shows Katy his thoughtful, sweet and romantic side. The Thanksgiving scene was absolutely amazing, I was nearly in tears. And the cookie scene was priceless!!

You get to meet new characters. Blake is the new boy in school who seems like he has the hotts for Katy, and that makes Daemon jealous even though he tries to deny it. When you get Daemon and Blake around each other the testosterone filled tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife. I loved the fact that Daemon always called Blake the wrong name, like Flake and Butler, just to get under his skin. At first I liked Blake but then he kept getting stranger and acting like he had a few loose screws. All Blake did was complicate things between Katy and Daemon even more than what they were.

Katy's mom, Kellie, starts a new relationship with a doctor named Will. He turns out being then doctor who takes care of Katy when she gets the "flu". At first he seems like an okay kind of guy, just what her mom needs, but then he becomes almost creepy and fixated on Katy.

I ended up hating both Blake and Will and I look something like this when I think about them.

There are so many twists and turns, and ups and downs. I was able to figure out a few things but then I was caught completely off guard with others.  I really don't want to spoil anything for someone that hasn't already read Onyx so I'll stick with saying that towards the end and at the very end there is so much emotion packed into a smallish size chunk of the story. I connected with Katy so much that I'm pretty sure I felt everything she did, guilt, sadness, anger, pain, elation, bliss and much more.

Like I said earlier, JLA will take you on an emotional roller coaster, but she'll leave you begging for more. I suggest that everyone give this book a chance but if you haven't read the first book in the series please wait and read Obsidian first. Easily earned a 5 star rating from me.

REVIEW: Obsidian by: Jennifer L. Armentrout Book one in the Lux Series

Title: Obsidian

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Published: November  2011

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Synopsis:

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

Review:

Ok I absolutely loved Obsidian! Jennifer Armentrout was able to catch my attention from the very beginning. You don't need to be a sci-fi fan to enjoy it.This is one of those books that the moment you start reading you're unable to put it down and usually end up devouring the whole thing in one sitting. You have to find out what is going to happen next, so you keep reading until you're finished and your eyes are too heavy to stay open and you realize it's 4 am. The story itself is outstanding. All the dynamics of a great story are pack into this book. There are sizzling characters, the chemistry between the characters is mind blowing, drama, action, romance, and the banter between Katy and Daemon is absolutely hilarious. It's a thrilling ride from start to finish and will leave you emotionally exhausted but it's so worth it.

Being a fellow West Virginian I was very impressed with Armentrout's depiction of WV and the fact that she focused on a lot of the positives and the beauty of our state and didn't turn this into a bashing of the West Virginian populace.

Katy Swartz is the main character and the narrator of the story. I was immediately able to connect with Katy and her love for books. She came off as a person who is sensitive, fiercely loyal, independent, completely stubborn and hardheaded, snarky and of course she's a total book nerd like me. Plus she kind of has this take no crap from anyone type of attitude. She is real quick to call Daemon out. She tries hard to be herself but to also follow her mother's advice: make an effort.

Daemon is the holy trinity of hot boys: Beautiful face, Beautiful body, Horrible attitude. From the first moment we meet him, Daemon projects an air of arrogance, an ego the size of Alaska, a conceited attitude, and as Katy would put it is a "douche canoe". He has a way of ruffling her feathers and getting under Katy's skin and the readers. And he is way too over protective of his sister but you soon discover he has his reasons.

Daemon's equally beautiful sister's name is Dee. She has a very sweet, bubbly, and hyper personality. Her and Katy become friends instantly, like best friends. Daemon doesn't want Katy and Dee being friends the least little bit.

Katy moves to West Virginia with her mom to get a new start 3 years after the passing of her father from cancer. Her mother has turned into a workaholic as a way to deal with the loss, so Katy pretty much stays at home alone. She ends up living next door to an incredibly hot Daemon Black and his equally beautiful twin sister Dee. Katy and Dee click from the moment they meet but from the moment that Katy and Daemon meet he is an absolute douche to her. Sometimes it almost seems like he is going out of his way to be a jerk. But as the story progresses we learn that he is only trying to protect his family. Katy, when she's not about to strangle Daemon, can't get over how gorgeous he is. And in the moments that Daemon is not being a douche, sparks fly, like blow up a laptop kind of sparks, between the two of them. Dee finds a unique way of getting Daemon to spend time with Katy so he can get to know her better, she hides his car keys. Daemon ends up having to save Katy's life and ultimately reveals his huge secret. Daemon and Dee Black are both aliens. Katy seems to be fine with the fact that her best friend is an alien but Daemon and the other aliens are worried that she will cause them a whole bunch of trouble and expose them.

I would definitely suggest to anyone that they go out and get a copy of Obsidian today, head to the bookstore, audio store, Amazon, B&N or your local library right now. I mean like Right Now! I don't think you will be disappointed. I know I wasn't.
