Hello, and Welcome to Day 2 of ABEA. Today's topics are Visual Expressions and Social Media.
"There are so many ways to tell stories. Whether it's comic books, graphic novels, visual novels, webcomics, etc, there are quite a lot of other mediums to tell a story. On this day, we will be talking about those books and formats that move beyond just words and use other ways to experience a story. " -- Taken from the ABEA Link up page.
I've never really been able to understand comic books and graphic novels, I just couldn't get into them. My oldest son loves comics though and from an early age he was able to figure out what was going on without being able to read. He'd sit and tell me everything going on by looking at the pictures.
This may not exactly fall under today's topic but I want to talk about it nonetheless. I do believe that a snapshot, a photograph, can tell a story just as easily as a comic, graphic novel, or even a book. I love looking at old and new photographs because with some you can instantly see a story behind it and with other's you have to use your imagination and make up your own story for it.
I'm not sure that I can offer too many tips on anything social media because I don't really use it. I know I could possibly generate more traffic to my blog if I used Facebook, but honestly I don't like it, call me weird lol. I have started to post my reviews on Goodreads and I will every now and then post a link to a review on Twitter to @Andrea_Idona. I've had Instagram (andrea_idona) for a while but just now started actually using it so I really don't know much about it.
I'm still new to the whole blogging world so I still don't know a lot but I have learned a bunch just by watching what some very successful veteran bloggers do. I've learned by watching them and from my own short experience that if you want any response from your readers you have to first engage them. You also need to reply to their comments because nobody wants to have a one-sided conversation, and if they are nice enough to stop by your blog and comment it's only right that you show them the same kind of love and go to their's if they have one. I've also learned that, not just from blogging but from life in general, that you have to stay true to you.
So, what are some of your social media tips? What other ways do you like use to experience a story?
Come back tomorrow for more ABEA fun!
