Armchair BEA Day 2: Visual Expressions and Social Media

Hello, and Welcome to Day 2 of ABEA. Today's topics are Visual Expressions and Social Media.

Visual Expressions:

"There are so many ways to tell stories. Whether it's comic books, graphic novels, visual novels, webcomics, etc, there are quite a lot of other mediums to tell a story. On this day, we will be talking about those books and formats that move beyond just words and use other ways to experience a story. " -- Taken from the ABEA Link up page.

I've never really been able to understand comic books and graphic novels, I just couldn't get into them. My oldest son loves comics though and from an early age he was able to figure out what was going on without being able to read. He'd sit and tell me everything going on by looking at the pictures.

This may not exactly fall under today's topic but I want to talk about it nonetheless.  I do believe that a snapshot, a photograph, can tell a story just as easily as a comic, graphic novel, or even a book. I love looking at old and new photographs because with some you can instantly see a story behind it and with other's you have to use your imagination and make up your own story for it.

Social Media:

I'm not sure that I can offer too many tips on anything social media because I don't really use it. I know I could possibly generate more traffic to my blog if I used Facebook, but honestly I don't like it, call me weird lol. I have started to post my reviews on Goodreads and I will every now and then post a link to a review on Twitter to @Andrea_Idona. I've had Instagram (andrea_idona) for a while but just now started actually using it so I really don't know much about it.

I'm still new to the whole blogging world so I still don't know a lot but I have learned a bunch just by watching what some very successful veteran bloggers do. I've learned by watching them and from my own short experience that if you want any response from your readers you have to first engage them. You also need to reply to their comments because nobody wants to have a one-sided conversation, and if they are nice enough to stop by your blog and comment it's only right that you show them the same kind of love and go to their's if they have one.  I've also learned that, not just from blogging but from life in general, that you have to stay true to you.

So, what are some of your social media tips? What other ways do you like use to experience a story?

Come back tomorrow for more ABEA fun!

  1. I love to look at photographs (especially old ones) and picture the story behind them. Sometimes I'll see one with a haunting face and wonder just what went on when it was taken. Happy BEA-ing!

    1. Thank you and thanks for stopping by Danni. I was going to put really old pictures in with the post but then forgot about it.

  2. I love looking at really old pictures myself. I don't mind comics/graphic novels but they are not a big thing for me. We have a huge collection from husband and he is looking forward to when my son can handle sitting down to read them. At the moment comics are just a tiny bit out of his reach.

  3. I went on a full blown rant on the subject of social media on today's post. I hope that you are able to find your social media niche. It is a matter of finding the ones that are right for you. I have made a lot of changes lately to my own approach.

  4. I do think social media helps if you're looking to up traffic to your blog, but I also think you have to find what you like best. Maybe that's just because I'm not a FB user and love Twitter that I'm saying that, but... well, there it is. Hope you find the right thing for your blog, Andrea - and best of luck with this blogging journey of yours! :)

    1. Thank You and Thanks for stopping by Rissi. I've honestly had more luck getting traffic and followers to my blog by joining up with the TTT meme and Feature and Follow meme. As long as I get the chance to talk about books with other book lovers or people looking to start reading, I'm happy because that was my goal when I started Mountain Rhinestones.

Please feel free to leave me comments, I love reading them. I try to respond to all comments within the same day, but it may take me a day to respond. I do comment back and enjoy the conversations.
